Background Notes: This is another example (of so many...) where I started writing a scene, then put on the breaks and chopped it out when I had a better idea. Takes place... well, I think it's obvious with the characters announcing the time and all that.
...Doc Brown led Marty through the crowds on the boat deck, checking his time on his watch again as he walked. Shortly after 1:30AM.
"A half hour late," he muttered, slipping the watch back. "Damn."
"What's wrong?" Marty asked immediately, somehow picking up Doc's soft utterance over the noise and chaos around them.
"Nothing," Doc said. "I just hoped that we would be gone long before now. I don't like being here at all, not in the least."
"We should be gone before the ship sinks, right?" Marty asked, sounding uneasy.
"Oh yes," Doc said quickly. He continued on the boat deck in the direction of the stern, slowing his pace in order to converse with Marty and stay out of the way of the Titanic passengers as much as he could. "We should be out of here in no more than ten minutes."
Ten minutes was perhaps a little optimistic, Doc soon saw. With the crowds of people, it was difficult to make much headway very quickly. He took the second class stairway down to the aft well deck on C-deck, then made his way to the very back of the poop deck, checking over his shoulder to make sure Marty was still with him. The teen wasn't having much trouble keeping up at all.
The back of the stern was crowded as people began to gather at the part of the ship with the most height above the ocean. Marty, who had been following Doc closely, suddenly slammed to a stop.....
